Training and AGM Day at Base 4

The highly successful Offroad Marshal Training Day and annual AGM took place this past weekend (6 April 2024) at Base 4, the headquarters of the 4 Wheel Drive Club of South Africa.

To kick off the day, but not before some well received coffee and rusks, Hannes van Rensburg led the yearly training session, bringing the Marshals up to speed for the year ahead and acquainting everyone with new regulations and procedures for upcoming events.

Additionally, we were honored by a visit from the GXCC team, who discussed various plans for the motorcycle events scheduled for the coming year.

New members were warmly welcomed into the club, which is always a refreshing sight given the demand for Marshals at our events.

We extend our warmest welcome to: Koos Myburgh, Stoffel Marais, Helen Marais, Chrizelda Jansen, Beatrice by Plessis, Eben van Wyk, Chanelle Strydom, and Janelle Strydom.

As is customary on training days, several Marshals took the Marshal exam following the training session.

This exam is a prerequisite to ensure a comprehensive understanding of event procedures and rules. Marshals bear a significant responsibility in guaranteeing the safety and efficiency of Motorsport events, thus it’s mandatory to pass this exam at least once every three years.

Following the training, a delightful lunch was served, featuring lamb, roast chicken, baby potatoes, and an assortment of salads, setting the perfect ambiance for the ensuing AGM.

During the AGM, the committee for the upcoming year was elected, and various club matters were deliberated upon. Consensus was reached that the year ahead promises to be as enjoyable as ever, filled with enriching experiences.

Every Marshal received a complimentary stopwatch, and several members were awarded certificates and medals in recognition of their services from the previous year.

Moreover, we proudly welcomed our first two honorary lifetime club members, Richard Howell and Peter Wise, acknowledging their remarkable contributions to the success of the Marshal Unit over the years.

As the day drew to a close, some adventurous souls who braved the inclement weather to camp over the weekend gathered around the campfire, reminiscing about the memorable moments shared in this remarkable Offroad Marshal Unit.
